Mike was a great guy.  In our senior year, Mke and I pooled our cash and invested in some Rolls Royce stock when they looked like they might go bankrupt.  We were sure the British government wouldn't let RR go under.  We were wrong.  As it turned out, we did make a few dollars on the deal, though it tooks years of waiting.  In 1986, it was Mike who, while working in New York for a major literary agency, encouraged me in my writing and made the first contacts for me to publish my novels.  Later he moved to LSU Press.
