I guess, realistically, we have all known this was coming, but I certainly wasn't ready for it. I really didn't know Dale that well back in high school, but we had become friends since his diagnosis. I have really admired the wonderful attitude he had the entire time during the last four years, in spite of everything he has endured.I hope that if I ever have to face the knowledge of what he did, that I will have at least a fourth of his courage. We have lost a good and kind soul, and I have lost my friend.
Dale and his family attended church with my family. I don't think I ever remember hearing Dale say an unkind word about anyone. He was kind and had many sad events in his life but always kept a good attitude. I'm glad I knew him.
Didn't get to know Dale until our sophomore year. He got a kick out of me living on Bottle Hollow Rd. He called it Boller Holler. I called him a city slicker, and he called me a redneck hillbilly. He even signed my senior Aquila " to my redneck hillbilly buddy from Boller Holler". He seemed to always know how to make me laugh.
